Job Description and Duties

LUCI’s Communications and External Affairs Office oversees and manages all aspects of communications, including media relations, stakeholder/external as well as internal communications, social media and web content development. Under the direction of LUCI’s Public Information Officer II, the Public Information Officer I performs professional and technical tasks to assist LUCI and its branches in informing the public of activities, programs, operations, and objectives of the department and its people.

The position requires the incumbent to work effectively with staff in the Communications and External Affairs Office and other department employees, as well as media representatives, external stakeholders and the general public; analyze and forecast situations and data accurately, take independent action; and make sound decisions. The incumbent must also have the ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships and work independently or as part of the team. The incumbent must maintain consistent and regular attendanc e to meet work commitments

Working Conditions

Persons appointed to this position must be reasonably expected to exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects with or without reasonable accomdadtions. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Occasional/overnight travel up to 15% may be required.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • A skilled and proactive communicator who demonstrates commitment to quality of work.
  • Experience in developing and drafting communications materials including press releases, talking points, social media, etc.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, analytical, and project management skills to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects with short- and long-term deliverables.
  • Ability to adapt communications methods to effectively reach a variety of audiences and leverage different forums.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.
